A Journey Through the World of “The Plated Prisoner”: A Personal Review of the Series

If you’re seeking a fantasy series that gradually unveils its secrets, leaving you captivated until the very end, then the “Plated Prisoner” series by Raven Kennedy is worth every second spent immersing yourself in her books. As a devoted fan of the series, I’m thrilled to share my favorite aspects of the extraordinary world of “The Plated Prisoner” with you.

One of the most intriguing aspects of the series is how Raven Kennedy masterfully keeps readers in the dark, slowly revealing vital information about the world and our resilient protagonist, Auren. As you delve into the first book, “Gild,” you’ll find yourself pulled into a realm where curiosity intertwines with mystery. You’ll ask yourself so many questions but the main will be “Why Midas?”. I was hooked when I originally picked up the book and realized that this was THE Midas, and then I began to loathe him for his arrogance. It makes sense – a king that can turn anything gold would have an air of superiority. I found myself questioning her loyalty to the King with the Golden Touch in almost every interaction. Kennedy skillfully balances the delicate art of disclosing just enough to keep you hooked while maintaining a veil of secrecy around Auren’s motivations. It’s a thrilling experience, discovering the hidden truths from our heroine, who keeps her secrets tightly held even from the reader.

One prominent feature that sets Auren apart from everyone else and makes her the favored of King Midas is her gold skin, a striking characteristic that makes her more object than person in the eyes of the kingdom. Raven Kennedy’s reimagination of this tale adds a unique layer of depth to the narrative, positioning Auren as the pinacle of King Midas’ touch. Her golden surroundings, skin, and life becomes an essential element, driving the plot forward and setting her on a path fraught with challenges and self-discovery. It’s a brilliant concept that adds a touch of mythical allure to the series. As you progress through the books (especially as we learn about her history in Books 2 & 3), the significance of Auren’s golden skin becomes increasingly apparent. The delicate balance between her power and vulnerability, the implications it carries, and the impact it has on her relationships create a dynamic and thought-provoking narrative.

While the world-building and plot intricacies are captivating, the romance aspect is equally enthralling. By Book Two (Glint), Auren’s relationship with Rip gradually emerges, taking both the reader and Auren by surprise. It’s a testament to Kennedy’s ability to craft chemistry and connection between two very different characters in a way that feels genuine and organic. Prepare yourself for unexpected twists and turns as the romantic undertones weave their magic, leaving you falling in love alongside Auren. Not only with our protagonist, Kennedy explores the theme of love & power with many characters in the realm as well which eventually leads to incredibly well-crafted connected plot points.

With its gradual unveiling of secrets, the magnetic romance, and the reimagination of the tale of King Midas, this series captivates readers from start to finish. Join Auren on her extraordinary adventure, where secrets unravel, love blossoms amidst darkness, and a golden touch holds the power to change everything.
